Study Finds Gum Disease Is Common Cause Of Halitosis.

The Daily Mail (5/5) reports that a new study published in the journal Oral Health identifies gum disease as “the most common cause” of halitosis. The article adds, “Levels of volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs) — the foul-smelling gases and toxins responsible for bad breath — are twice as high in people with periodontal problems as they are in those with good oral health.” Robin Seymour, a periodontologist and Emeritus Professor of Dental Sciences at Newcastle University, led the study.
